directions

  • Place bread in a food processor and pulse into fine crumbs.
  • Transfer to a large bowl. (No need to wash the workbowl.).
  • Add blueberries, vinegar, mustard, Worcestershire, garlic, salt and pepper to the food processor; process until pureed. Scrape into the bowl with the breadcrumbs. Add ground turkey and egg and mix well with a potato masher or hands.
  • Divide the mixture into 5 or 6 equal portions; form into 1/2-inch-thick patties, about 4 inches in diameter.
  • Meanwhile, preheat broiler or heat an indoor or outdoor grill to medium-high. If using the broiler, coat a broiler pan with cooking spray. If using a grill, oil the grill rack by rubbing it with an oil-soaked paper towel.
  • Cook patties until browned and no longer pink in the center, 4 to 5 minutes per side.
  • An instant-read thermometer inserted in the center should register 160°F
  • Serve immediately, with or without rolls and toppings.

  1. This is an excellent recipe! I originally found it on MSN's delicious website, but made with lean ground beef instead. While I usually prefer turkey meat, in this case I liked the recipe better with the lean ground beef.

  2. Freak'in fabulous. I couldn't wait to tell all the snickering nay-sayers in my office how good they turned out. I made about a half recipe size to try them but absolutely loved them. At least for me they are a keeper.

  3. Totally scrumptious! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe, MsSally, a recipe destined for - or certainly deserving of - super-stardom! We enjoyed these in crispy ciabatta rolls with baby spinach leaves, tomato and basil. I'd never have thought of adding blueberries to burgers but the blend of flavours was fantastic! Except for using an egg rather than egg substitute, which I've never used, I made these exactly to the recipe - and I'll certainly be making these again. Made for Everyday is a Holiday.

  4. An unusual combination of flavors which work beautifully together. The sweetness of the fruit is perfectly balanced with the acidity of the balsamic and other savory additions. Were it not for the distinctive color of the fruit, most diners would be left wondering "what is that?" I've now enjoyed these twice - for dinner and lunch. At dinner, served it simply on a bed of lettuce along with corn on the cob and Recipe #292760. The burger stands well on its own without the addition of condiments. At lunch, more corn (such a perfect complement to blueberries) on a bun with some mozzarella cheese. Both options were delicious. Thanks MsSally. Made for the Safari Supper Club's Spring Spectacular.

  5. OK, MsSally, I'm telling you ~ You ought to try these unusual, great tasting turkey patties! They're great! I followed your recipe STRICTLY, but I did make it into only 4 patties, & that was just right, ('cause there were just 4 of us)! I made these with frozen berries & now want to make again with the fresh ones! Thanks for the recipe! [Tagged, made & reviewed in March Beverage Tag cooking game]
