This sauce is sweet and tangy. Add some at the end of cooking and pass the rest at the table. Frozen berries can be used if fresh are unavailable.
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
- 1⁄2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 pinch salt
- Place all ingredients into a saucepan.
- Bring to a boil, lower to simmer, cook for 15 minutes until slightly thick, stirring occasionally.
- Let it cool slightly.
- Pour into blender and puree.
- Use as you would any bbq sauce, on chicken, pork, or tuna.
This recipe had me curious for quite awhile and I'm so glad I finally tried it. While we enjoyed it I thought the vinegar overpowered the other flavours somewhat and turned the sauce almost black, which turned the chicken I used it on almost black as well. Not the most pretty presentation. On the other hand the blueberry flavour is just too good to pass up and I will be playing with this recipe. I may try champagne vinegar in a smaller amount next time and will add some onion to the mix. Maybe fresh ginger? This is worth some experimentation to suit our taste. Thank you, chia!
Yum! This sauce is so easy to make and has a terrific flavor. I added it to some baked chicken about 20 minutes before it was done and it worked perfectly. Thanks for a unique and yummy recipe, chia.
Not a sauce I'd use a lot but it's very good and I thoroughly enjoyed it on a grilled chicken breast.
