Bloody Hot Chocolate

"to be served with "bones" made of piped meringue. swiped from martha stewart if you can believe it. seems a bit gruesome for her. from the pics it seems really life-like. could add grand marne for a chocolate-orange taste."

  • 5 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 5 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 14 cup sugar
  • 1 12 teaspoons red food coloring (calls for gel-paste but probably regular red food coloring would be fine)

  • Bring milk and sugar to a simmer in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves, about 7 minutes.
  • Pour over chocolate, and let stand.
  • When chocolate begins to melt, stir until combined.
  • Whisk in food coloring.
  • Serve immediately with meringue bones.
