These were very moist and super easy to make! It only took me about ten minutes to put together, which is a real plus when you're rushed for time! I took some advice from the other reviewer and added some "white" chocolate chips to the chocolate mix - a real nice touch! The bananas give it such a wonderful taste - I served them to friends who came by for a quick get together and everyone thought that they were a definite "5"!! These are great - you really have to try them - moist, easy and delicious! Next time I'm going to try and add some roasted pecans to the chocolate half - yet another variation. Thank-you for posting this recipe - a definite winner in my books!!

I'm not one to complain about anything that has bananas in it, but these deserve a standing ovation!!!! I followed the recipe exactly, and these were awesome! They are sooo easy to make, too! Thank you!! ~Manda

Very good and a nice change to the banana bread I usually make when I have too many bananas threatening to over-ripen on me.

These were great! I actually used a smaller pan (9X9) and baked them about 10 minutes longer. These were plump and moist...I used about 5 small extremely ripe black bananas, the flavor was intense and smooth. I also threw some Ghiradhelli chocolate chips on top before baking, simply smashing! I'm getting ready to take these over to my in-laws house right now, these are too dangerous to be left sitting out! :) Thanks! (posted 7/7/2002) ***UPDATE***: Well this is rather strange, but I just heard back from the inlaws today, and they said, "I don't think those banana bars are something we would eat frequently. There's nothing wrong with them, they're just not to our taste." How odd, I thought, as the last time I checked they seemed to devour anything even remotely smudged with chocolate. Even so, I'm still standing by my 5-star rating.

Tastes great and really moist, the kids loved it. I put chocolate chips in the white half, next time I'm going to try peanut butter.

Delicious! These were so simple to make! I did add about 1/4 cup of peanut butter to the "white" mixture, as well as sprinkled the top with chocolate chips. I too used the 8 x 8 pan, but 10 minutes longer wasn't enough time for my oven...I ended up leaving them in for 20 minutes more. Thanks for a great recipe, Debster!

Excellent. I took this to a potluck (can you believe this was the only desert brought out of 12 people??) and it received top marks by all. Too bad I didn't make two!!? Thanks Debster.

Very good! I made them this afternoon; I ate only a smidge. By the time I came home from work 5 hours later, the whole dish was just about eaten!

Hi Debster, Really enjoyed these banana bars. They were so easy to throw together and I had them done in no time. I followed the recipe exactly and the bars turned out very moist. I brought them to my sister's luncheon today and everyone loved them. Thanks for a recipe I will make again.

Super! More cakelike than I thought they would be - they really puffed up! (Used a 9 x 11 pan). Added 1/4 cup of peanut butter to the white half and sprinkled the top with about 1/2 cup choc. chips before baking. (thanks, Canarygirl)! I will be making these again...

These turned out delicious: good texture and and not too sweet. I won't give stars, because I made significant changes. Because some reviewers said they were bland, I doubled the vanilla, added a teaspoon of cinnamon, and increased the cocoa to a scant half cup. I also made them with 1 c white flour and 1/2 c whole wheat flour.

After reading a few reviews, I took the suggestion to add a bit more cocoa powder to the bottom layer and 1/4 bag of chocolate chips to the top and this recipe was perfect! I like the texture which is more like a snack cake. My coworkers, husband and myself give it all 5 stars.

Wow, absolutely incredible! I added chocolate chips to the plain banana layer, other than that I followed the recipe exactly. These were kind of like a cross between banana cake and banana bread. Delicious! I think next time I may cut back on the sugar by a tablespoon or two, as they are quite sweet - but YUM!!! Thank you Debster! UPDATE - just ate some that I had frozen for 5.5 months....still moist and delicious!

Good, not great. It is very moist (I used 3 LARGE bananas). I also doubled the cocoa and think the recipe needs it. These are not the texture of brownies, but denser than cake.

These were really good. They were more cakey than I expected but still very good. I added some cinnamon and it made them even better. To reduce the number of dishes, I did the chocolate layer on top because then I could dump half of the batter in the pan and then add the cocoa (instead of having to put half of the batter in a separate bowl). It really didn't seem to negatively affect anything so if you want to use less dishes just do the chocolate layer on top.

Very yummy and easy to make! I replaced the butter with 1/4 cup oil and 1/4 cup plain yogurt. I also reduced the sugar to 3/4 cup. Next time, I may omit the oil and just do 1/2 cup of plain yogurt to make it fat-free. A nice change from banana bread.

sorry, but even though I followed your recipe to a T, we just didn't care for these. They seemed kind of bland, and more bread-like than cake-like.Not bad though, but just not something that anyone wanted seconds of.
