This recipe comes from the excellent cookbook " Vegetarian Pleasures" and I have been making it for years. It remains the top recipe (besides my Grandma's two-layered cheesecake) that everyone *always* requests. Hearty without being indulgent, warming in the winter, cooling in the summer - make it! (And, yes, I cheat and use canned beans. No one has complained yet!)
