Bizooey's Apple Crumble Pie - With Crust Recipe!

"A flavorful apple pie with a flaky, delicious crust that is an all-around favorite! When my daughter was 12, she got the recipe from a cooking class at the Superstore - and she has been making them ever since!"

• Ingredients for Crust

• 236.59 ml all-purpose flour
• 4.92 ml granulated sugar
• 1.23 ml salt
• 118.29 ml shortening
• 59.14 ml cold water
• 1 egg yolk

• Ingredients for Pie filling

• 3 apples
• 118.29 ml granulated sugar
• 4.92 ml cinnamon
• 14.79 ml lemon juice

• Ingredients for Crumble

• 78.78 ml butter
• 118.29 ml all-purpose flour
• 118.29 ml brown sugar
• 118.29 ml oatmeal
• 0.25 ml cinnamon

directions

1. For crust, mix together the flour, sugar and salt.
2. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse pieces.
3. Add in yolk and water.
4. Mix gently until dough is combined.
5. Roll out the pastry to 1/8" thick. Add flour if it's too sticky.
6. Gently lay in pie plate and trim edges to fit. Use fingers to create a neat edge for the pie shell.
7. For the apple filling, peel, core, and slice apples.
8. Pour lemon juice on apple slices to prevent browning.
9. Add sugar and cinnamon to apples, mix well.
10. Arrange apple mixture in pie shell and set aside.
11. For the crumble, mix all ingredients in a bowl with a fork.
12. Gently spread over pie, pressing down only slightly.
13. Sprinkle cinnamon on top of pie.
14. Bake pie at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes.

Delicious and easy to make. I usually don't make anything that requires a crust, but this one was quick to make and tasted good. We had it both hot (with vanilla icecream) and cold the next day. Even my fussy partner said, "So, when are you making the next one?" =)
