This is done in your crock pot. It's one of those set it and forget it recipes that always welcome us home in the very nicest way.

Great cup of hot chocolate!! I made this for one serving, so like Sharon, I didn't use a crock pot. I have made this twice now, wasn't happy with 1st photo's and it was too rich for my tastes, but still good. This time I cut the chocolate (I used Ghirardelli Bittersweet Chocolate) back to 1/2 ounce and now think 3/4 of an ounce would best suit my tastes. I think this would be a nice way to make hot chocolate for a group, using the crock pot method as stated in the directions, but also good to serve fewer using the stovetop or microwave. Thanks sharing the recipe. Made for Photo Tag.

Directions

  1. 1. In a 3- to 4-quart slow cooker, combine half-and-half, milk, and cinnamon sticks. Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 5 to 6 hours or on high-heat setting for 2-1/2 to 3 hours.
  2. 2. Remove and discard cinnamon sticks. If necessary, skim "skin" from surface; discard. Stir in chocolate pieces; whisk until chocolate is melted and smooth. Stir in vanilla. Serve immediately or keep warm, covered, on warm setting or low-heat setting for up to 2 hours. If desired, float marshmallows on top of individual servings. Makes 12 (3/4-cup) servings.
