This is the closest substitute for Bisquick and can be used even as a cake mix. For Bisquick recipes go to Double the recipe for larger family.

Ingredients Nutrition


  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt.
  2. Place in a food processor fitted with metal blade.
  3. Add skim milk powder and process a few seconds to mix ingredients.
  4. Cut shortening into chunks and add to dry ingredients.
  5. Process until mixture resembles coarse crumbs and margarine is distributed evenly.
  6. Do not over process.
  7. Spoon into an 8 cup container and seal tightly.
  8. Store in the refrigerator.

I needed some bisquick to make cheddar bay biscuits with, so I made this. Discovered at the last minute that I was out of shortening, so had to use butter and store the extra mix in the fridge. My biscuits turned out great! Thanks for this recipe!

This was just like busquick, and wasn't difficult to make. If you like the bisquick kind of buscuit, you won't be disappointed at all. I made these because I was out of the refrigerator busicuits (in a can) and I was making sausage gravy for my husband's birthday breakfast. We prefer the flaky style to the canned buscuits, but it's just a preference. I think if you like cakey biscuits, you'll love these. Thanks!

I changed this recipe a bit. I omitted the dry milk because it contains the horrid Vitamin A Palmitate. I used the entire recipe at once, only adding 1 1/3 Cups of milk, in my mixer until mixed. I then took it to my counter top to knead in maybe 1/2 cup of flour, enough to roll dough a little (3/4") with my rolling pin. Cut it with a wide mouth jar canning ring, baked at 400 degrees for 14 minutes. You end up with 10 of the BIGGEST biscuits ever!!! Great recipe:) Thank you for sharing the perfect recipe! These are what my hubby calls "MAN BISCUITS" :)
