- Note: To make the wonderful Slim Jim sandwich (basically a ham/swiss, but the technique is kind of important, as is the combination of sauce and ingredients) see recipe #246365. Big Boy grills their sandwiches to toast the buns. . I grill them on the George Foreman thing.

This is the exact recipe, with the exception of the pickle juice, I use lemon juice, that was on the Bob's Big Boy Tartar sauce 40 years ago. I have made it since that time, 40 years plus. It's the best and the only Tartar Sauce that anyone should use, and would use after trying it. Kudos to you steve in FL, thank you for showing the world REAL TARTAR SAUCE.

I made this recipe exactly as written with no deviations. I am from Ohio and I love Big boy! Things do taste different on the west coast and I am always super happy when I can duplicate a taste from home. This is a great clone and I have put it to use over the past week- hamburgers, shrimp and calamari. It is a perfect balance of flavors and does not overwhelm delicate seafood.

I grew up in the Cleveland Oh. area & I have been eating Big Boy's for about 52 years. Back then, it was called "Manners". (my sister worked there as a car hop, wearing roller skates. My clone of Big Boy sauce is a little different but i think it is a exact copy of the "Manners" (& Bob's Big Boy sauce... (all ingredients were taken from the "list of ingredients" found on the jars of Big Boy sauce they sold) 1 cup mayonnaise 2 teaspoons lemon juice 4 Tablespoons dill relish (very well drained) 1/8 teaspoon onion powder dash paprika pinch garlic powder

Grew up in Ohio. All time favorite is Frisch's Big Boy. When we lost ours in Heath Ohio I' d drive to Columbus - every week-no to have a Big Boy. burger. Finally my prayers were answered & they announced the upcoming return to Heath. I made a count down calendar like 6 months before the return date. I' announce the number of days until I'd be feasting at my favorite restaurant. On the day of the opening, my co-workers surprised me with a $50 Frisch's gift certificate! Anywhoo. I now live in Florida. Needless to say I crave my Big Boy burgers. I made this copy cat recipe and I'm in HEAVEN!!!! It's perfect! Thank you SO MUCH ??????????

I worked for months to copy Frisch's sauce for the Bar/Grill that I managed. My recipe was pretty similar to yours but a couple of tweaks make all the difference. To keep the onions from overwhelming, squeeze all the juice out of the chopped onions before adding and use sweet onions. Also, using a lite mayo lets the flavors of the ingredients sing!
