I've made this soup about a dozen times. My family loves this soup. It's my go to recipe when the kids are sick. My can of tomato soup is 14 oz. I also increase the seasonings and liquids because the kids love the juice. So I add 1 1/2 times the amount of seasonings and juices (except for the salt which I don't add). Instead of peas, I use quick cookig barley the last 20 minutes. I cook the pasta separately and then have the family add it to their soups. Thanks for the wonderful recipe.

Very good, went well with allison williams easy beer bread #75878, I did do a few things differently...I added a handful of rice and bow tie noodles, a can of tomato soup and 1/2 can of water...I used some meatballs I had in the freezer in place of the hamburger. Will be sure to make this again THANKS!

Only used 1 lb beef, but that was plenty. Put it in a crockpot and took it skiing with us. Finished every bite!

Great soup! I did modify this a little instead of the peas I used a can of corn, did not have celery leaves and basil. I also added teaspoon of garlic, teaspoon of Worcestershire, can of rotel, and when I added the noodles I added two cups of water. My five year old loved this soup as did the rest of the family. This soup will be a addition to our meals on these cold days. The best is for last which is the soup itself. I am excited to try this with venison. Great soup Jude! I had three bowls of this and can't wait to have it again during the football game! Hey guys it's great with a bottle of beer too! Best soup I've had!!!

What can I say but delicious....I made have the recipe and this is what I did. I added some red pepper flakes for a little zing, minced a large clove of garlic to brown with the meat, added chopped onion, 2 small potatoes cubed, fresh corn cut off the cob, the celery and celery leaves and carrots, about a half a can of white beans, and some barley. I used all the seasonings it called for and for the tomatoe sauce I used a can of V-8 juice. I also had to add more liquid but I did put extra stuff in the pot. DH and DH's dad loved the dish. There is still some left so I am going to add more liquid and have it for lunch tomorrow. Thank you for a DELICIOUS and adaptable recipe!

CRAZY good! Can you believe my son actually said "Mom! This is is the Best Soup Ever!" when he ate it. I laughed and told him the name of it. We didn't add beans or noodles but put rice in the bottom of our bowls. And I was out of soy sauce so I used Worcestershire -- nice addition. Excellent soup that is sure to be a family favorite for many years!

Should be called 'Kitchen Cupboard Stone Soup' ! Had the burger & onion soup, that's where things went wrong. Darn! Couple of carrots short, oh well, stretch em out with a diced potato. No tomato sauce, OK, here,s a can of tomato soup. No soy sauce, but I did have some teriayki. No split peas had to choose between lentils or pearl barley, barley worked fine. Now what? Oh well, Ditalini in place of the elbows. After all this, it's still a 5 star recipe! And I'm a poster child for Mise en place ;>)

Delicious! I made this in the crockpot, and since none of our family likes split peas, I substituted navy beans, and left out the celery leaves and forgot the parm, but still it was GREAT. My anti-soup husband even gave his blessing, stating "You could make this again." (That's a huge compliment, believe me!) We'll probably have this once a month or so; thanks for a "Super Bowl" recipe!

This was truly the "bestest!" It fed 5, and I had the most! For the noodles, I used rotini for I didn't have elbow macaroni. I also didn't have any dried split peas, but used some frozen peas instead. (next time I'll have to get the split peas for it!) To save a little time, I partially cooked the noodles separately in a light beef broth. It worked great! Overall, this was an excellent meal, very flavorul. I will make this again! Thanks for sharing!

My family loved this soup! Even Hubby who doesn't like soup at all. It was easy to make, seasoned just right and had just the right amount of noodles in it. Its also even better the next day.

Very yummy soup! I will admit I went to add the basil to the soup and realized I didn't have any, oh well. I did add an extra 2 cups of water towards the end and 2 beef boullion cubes. Jude Thank you! And it was simple to make!!!

LOVED IT! I made it last night or dinner and everyone loved it..I was surprised how hearty it was. I didnt add the split peas and used frozen peas, corn and carrots that i had on hand and also added a small can of corn. I thought the dish would be too bland or salty but it turned out so yummy, oh and i used a can of whole Roma tomatoes instead of tomato sauce and a chili flakes for some spice and served it with fresh crusty bread

I've made this a few times with a bit of my own twist. I did only use 1 lb of ground beef because 2 just seemed excessive. I don't use celery because I rarely have it. I use 15 oz of tomato sauce and 4 cups of water and eyeball all the seasonings which probably get at least doubled. I also add a bit of dried red pepper flakes for a bit of heat. I use 2 carrots and add 2 cubed potatoes and add garlic and some chopped onion. I omit dried split peas and instead use about a cup each of frozen peas, frozen corn, frozen blackeyed peas or whatever I have in the freezer. I use rice instead of elbow pasta and cook it separately and just add to the bottom of the bowl. Everytime we have it DH and DS eat it up! I usually serve with corn bread or warm rolls. Thanks for a great base recipe Hey Jude!

Very good recipe! Except for a few minor changes, I followed the recipe exactly. I added a dash of red pepper flakes, about a 1/2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce, and juice from a can of green chilies. Will definitely make again!

We liked this pretty well. I didnt have the onion soup mix packet so I used Substitute for 1 Envelope Onion Soup Mix. I cut the recipe in half. It was perfect for 3 of us and leftovers for lunch tomorrow. For some reason though we found it too salty. I will make it again and omit the salt and only add it if needed.

This soup really is the "bestest". I pretty much stuck to the recipe except for the celery (we didn't have any, so I used celery salt and omitted the 1/2 t of salt) I also used V-8 instead of tomato sauce. My family loved it!
