Bestest Hamburger Soup

"I think this is our #1 all time family favorite and it's often requested for birthday dinners. It's the 'Bestest' because my daughter described it as such when she was little. This freezes well and I've added directions for that and for reheating."

  1. I've made this soup about a dozen times. My family loves this soup. It's my go to recipe when the kids are sick. My can of tomato soup is 14 oz. I also increase the seasonings and liquids because the kids love the juice. So I add 1 1/2 times the amount of seasonings and juices (except for the salt which I don't add). Instead of peas, I use quick cookig barley the last 20 minutes. I cook the pasta separately and then have the family add it to their soups. Thanks for the wonderful recipe.

  2. Only used 1 lb beef, but that was plenty. Put it in a crockpot and took it skiing with us. Finished every bite!

  3. Very good, went well with allison williams easy beer bread #75878, I did do a few things differently...I added a handful of rice and bow tie noodles, a can of tomato soup and 1/2 can of water...I used some meatballs I had in the freezer in place of the hamburger. Will be sure to make this again THANKS!

  4. Made it just like the recepie said. Very good! Will modify next time.

  5. Great soup! I did modify this a little instead of the peas I used a can of corn, did not have celery leaves and basil. I also added teaspoon of garlic, teaspoon of Worcestershire, can of rotel, and when I added the noodles I added two cups of water. My five year old loved this soup as did the rest of the family. This soup will be a addition to our meals on these cold days. The best is for last which is the soup itself. I am excited to try this with venison. Great soup Jude! I had three bowls of this and can't wait to have it again during the football game! Hey guys it's great with a bottle of beer too! Best soup I've had!!!

Tweaks

  1. The boys in the house thought it was "fine" but my 7 year old daughter and I really liked this. I discovered too late that I only had one pound of cooked ground beef in the freezer, so I only had half of the meat. So I put in an extra 1/3 cup of noodles. I also put in about 2 cups of celery and 1.5 cups of carrots. Therefore it probably was thicker than intended. But I liked that about it :). Used frozen peas instead of split peas. I almost tossed corn in there but refrained.

  2. Loved this. I used beef broth instead of water and it really had a great flavor. Since the pasta absorbs liquid, I did add water on the next day. Thanks for posting.

  3. LOVED IT! I made it last night or dinner and everyone loved it..I was surprised how hearty it was. I didnt add the split peas and used frozen peas, corn and carrots that i had on hand and also added a small can of corn. I thought the dish would be too bland or salty but it turned out so yummy, oh and i used a can of whole Roma tomatoes instead of tomato sauce and a chili flakes for some spice and served it with fresh crusty bread

  5. Love this one! I use only 1 lb meat and a can of corn instead of peas. Also, I substitute worcestershire for the soy and use celery salt for the salt because I do not usually have celery leaves. This is a wonderful recipe that my whole house loves! Thanks for sharing!
