Unfortunately, this was not to our taste. We prefer a crispy waffle; these were almost cakelike and way too thick. Much too sweet, too.
The taste is good because of the cardamom. But way too sweet. We didn't like the texture. We like crispy waffles. And these ones were not crispy at all. They were pliable. I tried putting them in the toaster to make them crispy, but they were not standing upright. I probably won't do this recipe again because of that. Made for All you can cook buffet
Unfortunately, I did not have a Bestemor, since my Norwegian grandfather (from Bergen) married a non-Scandinavian (my grandmother), and my great-aunts (his sisters) were not cooks. So I missed out on Norwegian food growing up, but I am trying more of it now, and wishing I had grown up on it. This is a wonderful dish! The waffles are light and airy, and I loved the cardamom. I may even add more next time! Thanks for another addition to my "going back to my roots" list of recipes. I topped with Strawberries in Cointreau. Made for TOP FAVORITES of 2009 COOKBOOKS TAG GAME
What an awesome recipe Kissing Cook. I enjoyed these tasty waffles very much. Loved the addition of the cardamon it really worked well with the sour cream and strawberry jam. These waffles were big, crisp on the outside and light, tender and fluffy on the inside, just perfect. This treat was garnished with whipped cream and homemade freezer jam, which I heated for an extra special treat. I will be enjoying these again often, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful recipe. Made for My 3 Chefs/09 :)
This is exactly the same recipe that has been in my family for years! Before my grandmother had the luxury of getting sour cream, she used to make flodemelk. wonderful to see it in print! Caroline
