Wow, I was blown away with the great taste here and this is now my go-to creamy slaw recipe. I like using fresh lemon juice and white wine vinegar. It's definitely lemony in a great way! Easily can be tweaked for your own taste. I shred my own cabbage and sometimes use celery salt for the salt component, if no celery seeds are on hand. For those concerned with onion, you can prep them to remove the harshness. Soak chopped onions for 10-20 minutes in ice cold water, drain and use. Or flash them in hot water. (For flashing, put chopped onions briefly in near boiling water for 10-30 seconds, then rinse and strain with very cold water til they aren't warm. This will fix the problem and they'll still be like fresh onions in the salad without the bite or aftertaste.) I never put fresh chopped raw onions in anything anymore without this treatment, try it. I've used the whites and greens of scallions in this recipe, too, with very good results.
It just doesn't get any better than this! The slaw will last in the fridge - and stay crispy -- for several days. That is, if there is any left! People love this slaw and always ask for the recipe.
Amazing! You would never know it is low carb! Didn't change anything!
Awesome! Totally awesome! Make it exactly as per the recipe--don't change a thing!
Ooh, I really liked this! I used half and half instead of heavy cream, but that's only because I always that have it in the fridge. The sauce for this is just delicious! Thanks for posting.
This coleslaw recipe was great. My husband loved it and it almost does taste like KFC, didn't have celery seeds, was great without them too.
Overall we did enjoy this coleslaw, the texture, creaminess, right on. I do think however think that it was lacking in flavor...I feel that increasing the vinegar will provide the tang that I feel it needs. Thank you for providing a low carb side dish to my recipe box. I look forward to making this again, with the additional vinegar. :)
Used Xylitol as a sweetener, but added much less of it. Used mustard instead of celery seeds. Tastes just like KFC Coleslaw. Delicious!
This looks great but does not say how many carbs per serving as the other recipes do.
I began a lchf diet few months ago and have been accumulating various recipes that actually t-a-s-t-e good. This is one of them. I am serving this slaw tonight for guests, along with a nice pork butt roast I've been cooking all day in the crockpot. Slaw and pork just naturally go together. I use Zsweet as the sweetener in the recipe, everything else same as listed. Taste is lovely and as other have stated-stays crispy-crunchy for days in 'fridge. I bet you could serve this to some unwitting fam & they'd never know it was lc!
