I am so thankful for this recipe! I usually make it a couple of times a week to satisfy bread cravings. Considering how few carbs there are in a slice it's really delicious. You may need to add butter to a slice before eating it to make it taste more like "real" bread. Thanks so much for posting this! Update: I have found that by adding a cup of vital wheat gluten rather than the 3/4 cup keeps the dough from being too watery. It adds about another gram of carb per slice but it's worth it. I also use almond flour in place of the soy flour and have cut the Splenda to one tablespoon. It's every bit as good if not better now. Thanks again for this low-carb staple.
I made this bread in my bread machine last night, and I love it. My husband likes it, too. I am going to try it with some cinnamon and spices to make it a bit sweeter. Try it with butter and carb-free honey to soothe that sweet tooth! I plan to make another loaf to have handy next week. Thinking about it, I might also throw in some Parmesan cheese to make a loaf of cheese bread, too.
In response to the one star person: Yes, the bread has a slightly different texture. So what! It is low carb, full of protein, delicious and ever so healthy. My husband and I are on a low carb plan and it is so nice to send him to work with a tuna salad or egg salad sandwich. Bread is what we missed the most and thanks to this recipe (the lowest carbs out there) we can have some. My advice though is to completely leave out the splenda and add one scant teaspoon of real suger (the yeast eats it)and an extra 1/2 teaspoon of yeast. It makes the bread rise better. I also add a teaspoon of salt for extra flavour.

Omg, I just made this bread tonight in the bread machine and it actually tastes like real bread!! Kind of more like an italian style bread, it's light and airy and the crust was "crusty".....the only thing I changed was I used "golden flaxseed meal" (I think this made the bread lighter in color also), I added a tsp of salt and used the medium setting for the crust....It's a keeper!!
I like to add a tablespoon of cinnamon to this recipe. It produces a nice variation and takes away some of the "weird" taste as per my husband. I spray a little bit of non stick cooking spray on a napkin and then wipe it on the inside of my bread machine lid to prevent sticking
Please tell me what I am doing wrong? I have tried this recipe 3 times and in 2 separate bread machines and it still does not rise! So frustrating any tips would be appreciated or any other recipe too would be helpful as I am doing low carb and really would like to find a bread recipe:(
LOW CARB BREAD #102631<br/>I have been making this bread for my wife for about 2 years. We have given the recipe to a few friends and all have said the same thing. " It is too sweet ". I have reduced the amount of Splenda down to 6 individual packets and have been happy with the results. My wife thought that the original amount-- 2 table spoons of Splenda -- made the bread too sweet and was more like a desert bread. Everybody is happy now and losing weight.
Made this bread for the first time lastnight before I left for my part time job. When I walked through the door there was a lovely aroma filling my whole apt. Then I lifted the lid and it looked silly! But I took it out and sliced it up, yum! I love the flavor better than regular bread and plan on trying some of the variations, especially the cinnamon and nut one! I also want to take it out and make hamburger buns. Yes it was chewy but that added to the satisfaction for chewing and took a little longer to eat it. I will make it over and over again! Thanks for the great recipe.
Best Low Carb Bread (Bread Machine). This is NOT the best low carb bread. It contains way to much vital wheat gluten, thus rendering it sponge like and very hard to digest. Will not ever make again.
