Berry Nectarine Smoothie

"This is a combo my 2 1/2 year old DD came up with. I let her choose what she wanted in the smoothie and just threw it all together. She's a pretty good cook for a 2 1/2 year old, it turned out well. The addition of spinach leaves was my input merely for extra nutrition, these are optional."

  1. Delicious and easy to prepare the night before for a breakfast on the run - that is in the car or once I get to work. I'm always glad of another smoothie recipe, so that I can vary them. With summer fruits so delicious right now this was great. I used a low-fat yoghurt, which I use only in smoothies: otherwise it's Greek yoghurt and as a baby spinach lover just had to include those. They certainly ensure some added nutrition. This was delicious but next time I make this I'm going to follow DuChick's suggestion and add some flax seeds and maybe also one of my favourite additions - for added nutrition and textural variation - some sunflower seeds. Thanks for sharing, **Mandy** and dd! Made for Gimme 5.

  2. Hats off to your aspiring young chef, Mandy! She knows what she's doing! I found this combination very refreshing and had the perfect amount of sweetness. I didn't peel the nectarine and added a tablespoon of milled flax seed for extra fiber. Also used FF vanilla yogurt. No trace of the spinach showed in this deep purple healthy treat. Thanks Mandy and DD!

  3. amazing! i actually added kale instead of spinach and it still tasted great!! the only thing was it had a slightly green cast to the purple so i dont know if i could get away with giving it to my sister or anything...

  4. Good and kind of tart, but I used plain yogurt. I also used more juice, probably almost a cup so my blender could blend. I might add a banana next time to sweeten it a little. Reviewed for ZWT4.

  5. This was great! Loved how the berries and nectarine tasted together and the spinach addition...nice move! Can't even taste it. I did add a bit of honey to the mix! Made this for photo tag....Thanks for sharing!

Melbourne I live on a 5 acre property in the Dandenong Ranges Victoria, Australia, having moved from the burbs when I became pregnant with my now 15 year old daughter Alyssa. Once my daughter was born I became a stay at home mum as I couldn't bear the thought of putting her in daycare. She is the light of my life, I never imagined myself as a mum when younger but now wouldn't have it any other way. Alyssa was made a big sister on the 19th April 2010 when our cheeky little boy Blake was born. I love cooking and experimenting with new recipes so quickly become addicted to Zaar as it was previously known & still use it regularly. In addition to being my kids taxi  I also spend my time, reading, gardening and of course shopping. I'm lucky enough that we have the space & so love growing our own fruits, vegies & herbs, this also means we have plenty of room for animals & at the moment have 2 dogs, Max, a Jackshund who's 6, Fletcher, a Kelpie who's 4, 6 cats Snowpea, Fergus, Ginger, Tango, Annie & Cookie, 4 chooks & 2 Ducks. As well as our pets, we also have a lot of native animals around our area, we have kangaroos, wombats, echidna's, possums as well as rosella's, galah's & Cockatoo's hence the name of where I live..
