The originally recipe called for Olalliberries - what are those you ask? They are closely related to blackberries. However, they have a more intense, tart flavor, and a very brief growing season.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spread berries in a buttered shallow 2 qt baking dish; sprinkle evenly with 1/3 cup of the sugar and lemon juice.
- Cream butter and the remaining 1/3 cup sugar until fluffy. Beat in vanilla. Mix flour with baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating until smooth after each addition. Spread over berries.
- Bake until topping is well browned and springs back when center is touched lightly (35-40 minutes). Serve warm or at room temperature.
