First time making it and it came out great. Used mushrooms instead of the green onion and threw in chicken to transform this dish from an appetizer to a main dish. If you are thinking about making it without the sesame seeds, don't! The roasted seeds push this dish from a good one to a great one. will make this again!
I did this the first time exactly as the recipe showed, it was delicious, but the next time I deleted two tbs butter (too much the first time), and added mushrooms, deleted the green onions, and added about a teaspoon of sesame oil. Yummy!!!!
BEWARE! Benihana uses a special garlic butter recipe as well as soybean oil to grease the skillet. This recipe here was dissapointing. My fiance and I go to Benihana once a week and this is NOT the recipe. Decent though.
Three Critical errors in the recipe. One, as noted the rice type should be short gtained. Two, cook the rice the day before then refrigerate the rice. Use the cold rice in the recipe. And most importantly- it's GARLIC butter!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing! I was skeptical that an online recipe could duplicate the wondrous Benihana's rice....but I just made it at home per your instructions and it was PERFECT! One idea - try to use medium grain or short grain rice instead of the typical long grain. It's tough to find but gives you the exact taste!
We love it without the green onions. Thanks for this keeper !
Yum, yum, yum! I have always loved the rice at Benihana's and now I can eat it on the cheap whenever I please. One thing to note: use japanese short-grain rice rather than the more common long grain US rice, or it won't be just like what they give you in the restaurant.
Amazing! I think I'll add a few peas next time, but it was really outstanding and so easy to make.
Followed this for a half sized recipe and it turned out great. Can't think of anything I'd change. Thank you for posting!
