  3. Add to the oil and brown.
  4. Add the remaining ingredients.
  5. Slowly.
  6. bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat and simmer until all ingredients are tender (about 1 1/2 hours).
  8. Serve warm with hearty bread.
