To get the real benefits of beets they should be raw.
Good basis but wayyyy tooooo sweet. Beets have more sugar than any other vegetable! If you have access to a Vitamix/Blendtec throw in fresh raw beets (scrub them and you can leave on the skin), use fresh apple instead of applesauce (leave on skin but remove stem), and leave out the honey! If you scrub the beets (and you can use carrot if you want it sweeter) than you don't get that "earthy" taste and it's suprisingly sweet.
