This is a great winter's day stew.

  1. Melt shortening in skillet.
  2. Add meat, onion and garlic.
  3. Cook and stir until meat is brown and onion is tender.
  4. Stir in catsup, worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt, paprika, mustard, cayenne and 1 1/2 c.
  5. water.
  6. Place in crock pot and simmer there at least 2-21/2 hours.
  7. Blend flour and 1/4 c.
  8. water and add to meat mixture.
  9. Bring to boil.
  10. Serve over noodles.

I was just going to post this recipe! This was one of my mom's signature dishes growing up, and she was also a mom of five. The only thing I do different is that I use 1/4 cup of olive oil instead of shortening. Excellent recipe. One of my all time favorites.

I made this years ago and lost the recipe. So glad I found it...it is absolutely delish! I use beef broth in place of the water for more flavor. This recipe does not disappoint!

Recipe said add ketchup, but didn't specify an amount, so I looked up similar recipes and added 3/4 of a cup. This was just wonderful. I put it in the oven in my clay baker all day on low and served it over noodles. Real comfort food. Definitely a keeper.
