Just the greatest soup for a cold day. My family really likes it and always asks for seconds. The tabasco adds to the flavor and I have found I add it to other soups as well

This was pretty good, warming and hearty. I didn't add any water, because I didn't want to loose any flavour, o it was a pretty thick soup. I had it just with bread on the first night and the next day the leftovers had thickened even more, so that I served it as a stew over mashed potatoes, which I liked better than serving it as a soup. So, next time I'd probably thicken it straight away by coating the meat with flour before frying or by adding a bit of cornstarch at the end. Thanks for sharing.
This was wonderful!! I have been looking for a good beef and barley soup forever and this is it!! My family and coworkers loved it, and I even gave the recipe to a couple of people.I did end up adding about 1/4-1/2 cup dark brown sugar,just to cut the slight bitterness,but it did not make it sweet. We dipped crusty french bread in it and it reminded me of aujus.This is a keeper,and will definatly make again,and again,and again!!Thanks..
