My family LOVED this soup. I thank you very much for posting this recipe. The only change I made was adding more water.

Just the greatest soup for a cold day. My family really likes it and always asks for seconds. The tabasco adds to the flavor and I have found I add it to other soups as well

We really liked this. It was wonderfully rich and savory. I made it as directed. Thank you for sharing.

This was pretty good, warming and hearty. I didn't add any water, because I didn't want to loose any flavour, o it was a pretty thick soup. I had it just with bread on the first night and the next day the leftovers had thickened even more, so that I served it as a stew over mashed potatoes, which I liked better than serving it as a soup. So, next time I'd probably thicken it straight away by coating the meat with flour before frying or by adding a bit of cornstarch at the end. Thanks for sharing.

This was wonderful!! I have been looking for a good beef and barley soup forever and this is it!! My family and coworkers loved it, and I even gave the recipe to a couple of people.I did end up adding about 1/4-1/2 cup dark brown sugar, just to cut the slight bitterness, but it did not make it sweet. We dipped crusty french bread in it and it reminded me of aujus. This is a keeper, and will definatly make again, and again, and again!!Thanks..
