Beef Heart Jerky for Dogs

"Beef heart is highly nutritious and in this area is very cheap and sometimes free. I cut the slices at least 1/2" thick so the pups can chew it for a while."

  1. Dogs went nuts for this! I cut some into smaller pieces, 1-2" square so they dried into small training size bits and left some bigger. I had the heart from a beef order I get annually so I was happy to find a great use for it. I only had to do about 6-8 hrs in my dehydrator, depending on piece size. I froze half, but it was all gone pretty quickly. I'd much rather give them this than store-bought biscuits

  2. I've been feeding this to my dogs for years. Regarding garlic powder: per AKC, it takes several grams of garlic to cause problems in dogs. Many high quality dog kibbles contain bits of garlic powder. I've fed my now 14 year old, 70 pound dog leftovers (not much-just small amounts) of my food his entire life, frequently containing garlic. His blood work, even at his age, is perfect. The key is very slight amounts - just enough to scent for the dog.

  3. Garlic is poisonous to dogs and cats. Waisted the organs of a steer and to lambs that were harvested this week. I should of researched the garlic powder suggestion before adding it but more the writer should of researched the garlic power idea before suggesting it.
