Oh boy did the kids LOVE this one. it's a big hit in my family.
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1⁄2 cup grated onion
- 1⁄2 cup bell pepper
- 1 can tomato soup
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (anykind)
- 1⁄3 cup brown sugar
- 1 1⁄2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 3⁄4 tablespoon dry mustard
- 1⁄4 teaspoon garlic salt
- 6 -8 hamburger buns
- brown meat and onion and drain off fat, add bell pepper, cook 5 minutes, add the next 7 ingredients;bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour serve on buns.
My whole family absolutely loved these--a "poor-man's" version of a BBQ Beef sandwich. A bit on the sweet side, but rather than cut down on the sugar (as I had already put it in), I kicked it up a notch with a tablespoon of horseradish.
This was a great change from the "Sloppy Joes" I grew up with. A definate make again and a recpie I will recommend.
I made this a few days ago with skinless ground turkey to keep the fat and cholesterol low and it was really delicious! Usually my daughter won't touch ground turkey but she ate this one up right away! Thanks so much for the great recipe! This one is definitely a keeper! :)
