  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons yeast
  • 12 cup water
  • 12 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 12 tablespoon sugar
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • vegetable oil, about 2 cups (for frying)

directions

  • Combine all ingredients (except oil) in a large mixing bowl , mixing to form a dough.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface, then return to mixing bowl. Cover with a towel and let sit for 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in deep skillet over high heat.
  • Pull off tablespoon-size pieces of the dough and roll into a ball. Press down slightly, then drop carefully into oil and fry until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels.

I'm giving this 4 stars only for the flavor...there wasn't any...but the ease of preparing and cooking was wonderful...I've made a very similar fried bread but without some of the ingredients...the first thing hubby said was..."this isn't your normal recipe"...we both felt it was heavy...I served it with butter...he enjoyed it with honey...

My screen name is a diminutive in Lithuanian for bread, so you won't be suprised to learn that I love to bake bread. In recent years I have been baking a lot of sourdough breads and have several starters sitting in my refrigerator. But I like to cook a lot of other things, as well, especially from various cultures. The cat wishes I would concentrate on meat and fish... I joined a few years ago but started posting recipes and participating in forums just recently - I wish I had done so earlier.
