Bauer House Oatmeal Spice Muffins

Try these for breakfast! They are some of the best muffins I've made. Healthy and delicious, with a tender yet firm texture. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do! The original recipe comes from a Bed and Breakfast Cookbook, but I've changed it to fit our preferences. It's very simple and gives great results. The recipe is easily halved if you have a smaller group to feed.

Very hearty, moist, and filling. It has a nice nutty flavor to it. I didn't use currants and I made some modifications: no clove, 1 egg white, 1 egg, a little less oil and more applesauce to compensate. I will definitely make again.

Ingredients Nutrition


  1. Stir together dry ingredients (flour through allspice).
  2. Beat remaining ingredients with fork, except currants. Add to dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  3. Stir in currants (if using).
  4. Let batter sit 5-10 minutes.
  5. Spoon into sprayed muffin cups and bake 20 minutes at 400 degrees, until golden and firm. Remove to rack to cool slightly, then serve warm.
