  1. This is a great recipe. It can be customized for preference as far as scent, and for consistency. Castile soap goes a long way, and baking soda is a very nice low abrasion cleanser. Regarding the oils, an essential oils guide will help with what can be used as a disinfectant. Tea tree oil is particularly good. Thanks!!

  2. OK... I couldn't find pure castile soap except in bar form, so I used Ivory liquid, which is pretty mild. I used verbena oil, which I love, about 8 drops... (my dropper gets a mind of its' own!) I shook everything up in a large glass jar, and plan to "rebottle" it into a clean squirt bottle. The mixture smelled very clean and fresh, and I used about 6 oz. on my bathtub. I let it sit for about an hour, then scrubbed & rinsed. I'm impressed- always used Soft Scrub, but this is pretty good. But... I since there's no bleach, I wonder if my tub is really sanitized???

I live in Chattanooga with my daughter. I work at a used bookstore, and I love to read pretty much everything, especially cookbooks. Some of my favorite cookbooks are those of Nigel Slater, Barbara Kafka, Thomas Keller, and Nigella Lawson, plus the Moosewood series. I think perhaps my biggest pet peeve is food snobbery, and indeed snobbery in general. I love trying new things so much that I rarely make the same dish twice. Oh, a big thank you to all who have reviewed my stuff recently. I am currently without premium membership and unable to tell you so on an individual basis.
