This made for a great soup, for us. Had the guys stop by after the game after sitting in some cold, windy 40 degree temps at the football game. As for the soup, I had my DS make it, as we were on the way home, we decided to leave out the cabbage, and add an extra 1/2 cup of beef stock. The 8 of us loved it, warmed us up, and had great flavors. The sausage added an extra flavor to us, and we all enjoyed it.
Made for dinner last night. Really liked it. Good flavor and texture. I used some white potatoes and some sweet potatoes which I thought worked well. The sweet potatoes break down a little more and add to the "stewy" quality of the soup. Very different from the typical creamy sausage and potato soup.
My husband rated this as a four because he is "not fond of cabbage" My SIL and myself say 5 although it could use more carrots. Son wouldnt try it but my daughter liked it. Its a very flavorful and hardy soup. Thanks for a good keeper recipe.
This is a very flavorful soup. I made exactly as written, except didn't have any celery leaves so I didn't use them. I am always a bit leary of adding wine to dishes, as it leaves a taste I'm not particularly fond of, but I did use a dry red wine in this, and it actually enhanced the other flavors in the soup. I particularly liked the flavor of the smoked sausage in this. Glad I chose this recipe - it's a keeper and one I will make again. Made for your 2012 FOOTBALL POOL win.
We had a dreary looking day yesterday and soup sounded so good to me. This was very easy to put together and I loved it. Only made 1/2 of the recipe and used petite diced tomatoes, packaged cole slaw mix, and 3 medium baking potatoes. For the celery leaves I used celery seed, love it, and eyeballed the amount. This would be considered a "stoup" as Rachael Ray would say and I enjoyed it that way but might add more broth when made again. Made and reviewed for Family Picks during ZWT8.
Great. Added more broth. Will make again soon.
The ingredients make for an interesting flavour combination. The soup is kind of like a stew - I personally like more broth with my soups.
