Basic Soy Burgers

"If you like Boca burgers you will absolutely adore these yummy, homemade soy burgers. You can cook your own soybeans or find canned soy beans in the health food section of your grocery store. I make double or triple batches of these and freeze them for a quick lunch"

directions

  • Place everything except bread crumbs in a food processor or blender and puree until fairly smooth.
  • Transfer to a bowl, and add the bread crumbs. Stir until well combined.
  • Form into patties abut 4 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick, using about 1/2 cup of mixture for each patty.
  • Heat a heavy, non stick skillet and brush with oil. When pan is hot, add burgers and turn the heat down to medium, and cook for about 10 minutes on each side. Watch them carefully so they get nice and brown but don't burn.
  • Serve burger style.

  1. Hi! I am on a hunt for a soyburger recipe, and I think this is the fifth (or so) I've found in the last hour or so. It looks at least as good as any of the others, somewhat simpler but requires at least one ingredient I do not (these days) regularly have on hand -- tofu. So -- an average review which I'll update if/when I've tried it out, rather than just assess it by reading it and judging against my experience. HOWEVER that is not why I am entering a review. Your 'handle' brought me up short, because I, too, have budgies and 'tiels. I am 72 yoa at the end of this month, married, retired, female, If you'd like to "talk" food or birds or ???, please reply. Otherwise, I apologize for bothering you.

  2. This a basic recipe. It seems like you add anything you want as long as the water content is low enough to form patties. So first off, I used 15 oz (1.5 cups) of cooked lentils instead of soybeans and twice as much garlic. Anything to add more flavor will make these better like mushrooms or marinated tofu. I doused the uncooked patties with worchestershire sauce and let it soak in before cooking them. On two patties I tried an oyster sauce topping. In my opinion, they needed some color, they were looking like an unappetizing shade of yellow-green. Good basic recipe!
