      Followed to the letter, twice, both times didn't rise enough - came out too "dense" and not risen. Friends said it was a good "pound cake." But I expected lighter and fluffier.

      I wanted something sweet like cupcakes or cake and it didn't make sense to buy something ready made when I had all of the ingredients to make my own. I made half of a recipe for this cake. I used two small cake pans for a buttercream layered cake. The cake browned well with two golden layers that are pretty and moist. My cake didn't crack or break, and had very few crumbs when I iced the cake. This is a basic cake mix recipe, but it is one that can be used for many different variations. I am going to try this cake plain with fruit sauce. Chocolate icing sounds good too! Good recipe, even better the next day.

      Made this for my daughter's birthday, when I realized that we didn't have a cake mix in the house. It turned out light, and fluffy, and everyone was asking for more! It will be my standard from now on. Thanks!

      I love this recipe because of it's simplicity and the fact it uses things I usually have around. It worked perfectly and made a lovely fine textured cake. Light and delicious, much better than a cake mix! I was looking for a recipe to make a jello poke cake with and this was perfect. I'm including a picture of the cake after decoration as well... Thanks for posting.
