This is my favorite barbecue sauce. I usually make a big batch and freeze it in smaller batches for later.

i made little changes. just ommited the cayenne and smoke in favor of dried chipotle.
however, the amount of butter was overwhelming and weird. three of us tried it and next time will either leave it out, or add a tsp at the end...

This sauce is excellent! My preference for BBQ is east Carolina vinegar, and DH likes Kansas City red. We both actually really liked this sauce, and so did the kids! I ended up cooking some chicken in it in my dutch oven, then shredding in for sandwiches. It had just the right amoun of zip without being too spicy for the kids. DH added some Frank's hot sauce to his. I used about half the water called for, and it still was not a "thick" sauce, which is fine. I used apple cider vinegar, country dijon mustard, mesquite flavored liquid smoke, the juice from a little more than half a lemon, and I had to sub chili sauce for ketchup because I was out. I think I'll continue to use it, though, because it came out so well. Thanks for a keeper!
