• if the cut of meat you are using is an inexpensive cut it is a good idea to liberally shake some meat tenderizer on it. since meat tenderizer is so salty be sure to take this into account when later seasoning the dish.
• next dredge the meat in a little flour and brown it in a touch of oil. this is completely optional and if you are on a low-cal diet it's okay to use a non-stick pan and no oil or flour. it does taste better browned in the oil though.
• take the meat out and put on a plate. in the same pan add the onions, and garlic and brown a little. then return the meat to the pan, add the tomatoes and the peppers, a touch of worchestershire sauce and a little basil, or whatever spices you may enjoy.
• simmer for about a half an hour. the sauce should still be relativly runny and is great served on a bed of rice or whole wheat pasta.

1. Very nice tasting meal. I only had about half a green pepper, so I added some chopped carrots and celery. I also added a splash of wine and a dash of crushed red pepper. Had some left over for lunch the next day so I took the beef and cut it up small and added it back in with the sauce and served it over fresh pasta topped with parmesan - even better the next day. Thanks!

2. My mom made this often for our family and your recipe is very similar so I had pleasant memories. I used thin sliced sirloins (a breakfast cut). My big mistake in preparing your dish was I discovered after I had the can open I had grabbed tomato sauce instead of canned tomatoes. :/ Your recipe doesn't specify amounts on seasonings... I used 1 t. of dried basil, 2 t of worcestershire sauce, and added salt & pepper to the flour for dredging and the pot while cooking. I served with parsley rice. Thank you for sharing your recipe!!!

Cooking, food, food preparation, different ingredients and tastes are all things that I am fascinated by. I absolutely love cooking and find making a big meal incredibly relaxing. I love to prepare food for others and entertain. I am fortunate to have many friends who are willing to try all my culinary experiments. As an only child I have been blessed with the opportunity to experience many adult flavors and tastes at a young age. This has instilled in me my love for gourmet foods, which I consider one of life’s greatest luxuries. My favorite food as a child was escargot (and still reigns number one on my favorite food list today) which leads me to my conclusion that anyone can really like anything, you just have to try it. Because of this I try everything once. The world of flavor is so vast that I don’t want to miss out on anything that I may truly like, but was too "chicken" to try. (and yes, I have tried chicken feet) Although I do love fine foods I am not a “food snob” a nice squished grilled cheese made with Wonder Bread and Cheeze Whiz is on my top ten favorite foods list too. As far as food types are concerned I really do like just about everything, especially ethnic food. I am enjoying alot of Thai and Arabic food right now and also favour Greek and South American cuisine also. Yumm! I just love food!!
