Bananas with Caramel Sauce and Whipped Cream

"Kind of embarrassing to call this a 'recipe'. I had made up a batch of caramel sauce one day that I had to use up - the rest was easy. Tastes wonderful!"

ingredients

  • 1 12 bananas, per adult cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces (we're greedy!)
  • 1 teaspoon butter, per serving
  • 2 tablespoons caramel sauce, per serving warmed slightly in microwave
  • whipped cream (I had the kind that comes in a can and whips prettily onto the dessert, direct)

directions

  • Melt the butter in a small non-stick pan until melted and foamy.
  • Add the banana pieces and saute, turning occasionally, until soft and browned in places (about 3-4 minutes).
  • Distribute bananas amongst as many bowls as people you are serving.
  • Top with 2 tablespoonfuls of caramel sauce (homemade is best!) per serving.
  • Dollop freshly whipped cream or, if you're lazy like I am, use one of those spritzy can thingies (what are they called?).
  • You've got a hot dessert on the table in about 6 minutes from start to finish.
  • Can't beat that and it tastes great too.

  1. great combination Evelyn whether its a recipe or not. Have you tried baking the bananas instead of frying them. You only get 4 stars cause its not really anything that you make. Ann

  2. My husband and I loved this! I used far less butter (probably more like a teaspoon or so) and I didn't measure the caramel sauce either. I just poured it on and it was just fantastic! It really makes such a nice dessert. I know I will be making this many more times. Thanks for such a great recipe!

  3. This was good and easy to make. I didn't add the butter but my son and I enjoyed this. It was something different for us.

I moved out here many, many years ago from Ottawa, Canada - so I am blessed in having two wonderful heritages! I suffer from compulsive obsessive behaviour with regard to food and my psychiatrist thought it would be a good idea to find a 'society' where many have the same problem and try to find a cure. So far, I've copied a couple of thousand recipes from this site and my psychiatrist has thrown the towel in and refuses to answer the phone when I call. What did I do wrong? Got 3 kids that keep me on the go - 10 and under at this point (2008) - I may not get round to updating this for a few years, so you'll have to do your own maths. I teach English full-time and Greek Cookery part-time. I would like to make the cooking part of it full-time and the English Grammar part of it part-time. That's all for now.
