An old recipe of my grandmother's; my mother and grandfather love it on spice cake. Grandma's recipe card says that this frosting is similar to a banana-frosted spice cake A&P used to sell back in the very early 70s.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Mix the banana and lemon juice together.
  2. Cream the butter with 1 cup of the powdered sugar; then add the banana and enough remaining sugar to make the mixture thick and spreadable.

Yummy!!! Based on other reviews, I used two smallish bananas that were very, very ripe. It had an awesome banana flavor, and as other reviewers mentioned, it was quite fluffy - so not a hard type of frosting at all. I used it to frost Brownies by chef Tweetygrams (my favorite brownie recipe on this site!). Oh, and I made the recipe as stated, but took half and added cream cheese and a bit more powdered sugar. WOW! Both versions were absolute keepers. Thanks for posting!

A nice flavor. I used to frost Recipe #152894. Next time I might try adding some cream cheese to the frosting. Thank you for the recipe.
