This recipe was given to me by a German lady that I worked with some time ago, it's a nice change from the usual potato salad recipe

Ingredients Nutrition


  1. Set oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Butter a 3-quart baking dish.
  3. Fry bacon; drain drippings from skillet reserving 1/4 cup.
  4. Add celery, onions, salt and flour.
  5. Simmer, stirring constantly.
  6. Add sugar, vinegar, pepper and water.
  7. Bring to a boil.
  8. Toss bacon and potatoes together in the baking dish.
  9. Pour celery mixture over top.
  10. Cover and bake for 30 minutes.

Another of your great recipes! I took this dish to a Church Potluck tonight and it was delicious. I always thought German Potato Salad was a difficult and time-consuming ordeal; however, this recipe was really easy to make. Thanks!

This is almost exactly the same recipe that I heard on a radio program in Iowa years ago. I don't remember who called in this recipe, but it has been a favorite of our family ever since. I nearly lost my hand written recipe once, so I am so glad to find it here in case I ever misplace it again!
