A recipe that is simply done, and cobines different ingredients to an excellent result. Found in "French Cooking in the New World" I use Moselle Valley Reisling; likewise its important that you use pure maple syrup, as corn syrup doesn't get it done!

  1. Cut pears in half lengthwise, but do not peel them.
  2. Remove the cores, and place the pears, cut side up, in a nonreactive casserole.
  3. Fill the hollow within the pear with wine, then pour the maple syrup over the pears. Sprinkle with sugar on top.
  4. Bake pears in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes, until tender.
