ingredients
- 2 (1587.57 g) can bush's original baked beans
- 425.24 g can white cannellini beans (drained)
- 425.24 g can red kidney beans (drained)
- 8 slice bacon
- 1 large onion, chopped coarsely
- 453.59 g ground beef (ground turkey can be substituted)
- 118.29 ml ketchup
- 59.14 ml dark brown sugar
- 14.79 ml prepared mustard
directions
- brown bacon in frying pan till brown and crisp. Remove and let drain on paper towels. Drain grease from pan. Add ground meat and onion and cook until browned and onion is soft. While this is cooking cut the bacon in small pieces(8ths). Add bacon back into meat and heat all together to blend flavors. Remove from stove and drain as much grease as possible leaving a scant amount for flavor.
- In a a large bowl combine all the beans. Add the meat mixture and mix well. Add ketchup, brown sugar and mustard. Mix well and pour ingredients into a large casserole dish, bean pot or stoneware baking dish. They seem to taste best cooked in a crock just like in the old days. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 45 mins to 1 hour bubbling hot. Time varies with the size and shape of the bakeware.

It is such a busy, fast paced job that there are times I come home drained. I have learned to make fast easy meals from Recipezaar and save the more complicated ones for my days off. My husband is in the Army and was away for a year and now is stationed so far that he comes home on Friday nights and goes back Monday mornings. So I always like to have some nice meals waiting for him.
I always say it is like we are dating again. Since we only see eachother on weekends I try to impress him with a nice homecooked meal when he gets home. He usually eats at the mess hall. Other nights we will go out to dinner and a movie. I have one son who has been my Rock of Gibraltar through this. so some of meals are geared towards his tastes. He works and goes to college so I try to sneak a special meal in for him when he is home. Which isn't too often. I enjoy trying new recipes and sharing some of mine.
