Awesome Bacon-Tomato Dip

"Oh, you HAVE to try this one!! My family LOVES dips and spreads, and even the guys got really into this one. I even caught my uncle (who thinks guys are too "macho" for dips), eating it straight from the bowl with a spoon!! Best when made day of, and lettuce added just before serving. It gets soggy:("

  1. Wish I could give this more than 5 stars. This was so wonderful. And I had atleast 8 people ask me for the recipe, my stepmother took two bites and got up and grabbed paper and pen so i could jot it down. The only thing i changed was instead of using an onion, and a green pepper, i had some green onion that i chopped up instead. This had really great flavors, I served it with Fritos Scoops, and Wheat Thins. A keeper for sure.

  2. You've got a real crowd pleaser here!! Instead of 1 large tomato, I used 1 medium red and 1 medium orange tomato, which made it very colorful! I am not sure why, but I opted not to use the lettuce. We really liked this and will be making it again! Thanks for the great recipe! :)

  3. Awesome is the right word for this dip. It was sooo good. Everyone loved it and I didn't even have any green peppers to put in it. We ate it on crackers and on tortilla chips. I thought that is was best on the chips. Since it wasn't all eaten the first day, I heated it the second day so that the cheese would melt. That was really good too. Made this for Thanksgiving and not only got requests for the recipe, but have been asked to make it for the family Christmas too. Thanks sooo much for posting!

  4. Excellent recipe. I served the lettuce on the side so the leftovers would keep better; however, there wasn't any left! Absolutely delicious dip. Served it with celery and carrot sticks, pumpernickel bread chunks, and assorted crackers. Everyone loved it and asked for the recipe.

  5. I skipped the onions and peppers because I was entertaining guests who have heartburn problems. Used garlic powder and onion powder. Everyone loved it!

Tweaks

  1. This dip is fabulous! I took it to a get-together with our bible study group and it was gone in no time! I did use green onion instead of the onions and green peppers, just because that is what I had on hand. I also used fat-free cream cheese and fat-free sour cream. I did not use the lettuce as I didn't think it really needed it. I liked it better with the Frito Scoops than I did with the Wheat Thins, but that's just my opinion. Since I shared this recipe with everyone in our group, I'm sure this won't be the last time I get to enjoy this dip. Plus, I will be making it again. Thank you for this recipe.

  2. To save time, I substituted a can of (drained) diced tomatoes instead of seeding and chopping a fresh tomato. The flavor was awesome! Thanks so much!

  3. Oh YES! This is GREAT! I took this to a Ladies Valentine Party at church and received great reviews! I actually doubled the recipe and it made alot. Instead of using tomato and onions - I opted for a can of Rotel. I did not use all of the juice in the can, but as you mix, you can decide how much that you like. I did not use the green peppers. Also bought a larger bag of the real bacon pieces instead of cooking a pound of bacon. Anything to save time and energy. This will be made again!

  4. This dip is great. I took it to a party and it was the first thing to go. Everyone wanted the recipe. I used green onions instead of the onions and green peppers but otherwise followed the recipe. I think it could be made with less bacon as the bacon flavor was very strong...lots of potential for tweaking in this one. Thanks for posting!!

  5. I made this as an appetizer for Christmas dinner. Followed the directions exactly, but omitted the lettuce and used jarred chopped garlic instead of garlic powder. Although I got compliments on it, I felt something was missing. I think next time I will add a dash of cayenne or chili pepper flakes to give it a bit of zip. Served it with fresh veggies and crackers. Like someone else said, it's so thick, the crackers broke when dipping, so I think serving with a spreading knife would be helpful rather than dipping. If the company wouldn't have liked it, I would have rated it a 3. Was a tad disappointed given all the rave reviews.
