I use a little ground allspice to replace the nutmeg as it is an intoxicant and all intoxicants are haram. I also dry roast the rest of the spices whole in a pan and then grind them for a better flavour.

This mix is fantastic! I made it for the Mashy Crump and it is perfect. It works great in all Middle Eastern dishes! My Egyptian friend came over to eat with me and was asking about the Bokharat. He tasted the spice mix raw and loved it. I had homemade falafel mix and it was very very bland - added a spoonful of this spice and it changed everything - great!
