Ok, I haven't made a layer cake in a hundred years...but thought this would be a good day to try this recipe. Man oh man!!! What a fantastic cake! And it came out BEAUTIFUL! I was so pleased. Simple to put together, I did double the spices, I'm a spicy girl, yea right..LOL and it was perfect. Iced with cream cheese frosting. This will be a favorite around here. Thanks for sharing with us.
What a great recipe! I used the frosting as suggested by sweet chef and I couldn't wait until it was cool so I drizzled the frosting on anyway and ate it warm! Just yummy..
made this for someone's birthday. used the frosting except ran out of butter so partially used butter flavor crisco, which tasted great.
I needed to clean out the fridge and use up some applesauce, this was a great recipe to do that with. Next time I will increase the spices just a bit. Frosted this with a caramel topping and am giving it to a friend who is a student with four hungry teenagers. I'm sure it will be gone before tomorrow.
I made this cake yesterday, and everyone really liked it! Very moist, not too spicy, and good :). Also, witout the frosting, this cake is probabaly lower in fat since it uses alot of applesauce. The spice amounts didn't seem like enough, so I doubled all of the ground spices, and it was perfect! I used cream cheese frosting (Allspice Cream Cheese Frosting) to frost it, and together they were great. Thanks for posting this great recipe!
You can't go wrong with a recipe from Bon Appetit. The combination of spices made for a very tasty and delicious cake that was moist as well. I baked it in a sheet pan and cut it into squares and topped it with sweetened whipped cream. Yum! Thanks so much for sharing this fabulous recipe, Ellie.
