Great "fall" recipe. I used raisins because it was what I had onhand. I prepared this for Fall PAC '08 but will be making it again many times.
This recipe is very close to one my grandmother used for years at christmas time. I tried this and adapted it slightly to be more like hers and it came out great. What I did was I swapped out the nutmeg for clove and added 1/2 cup of chopped dates and 1/2 tsp vanilla. I also chopped the raisins because this is what my grandmother always did.
I doubled the recipe and made an extra large loaf. Also, I used almonds instead of pecans because I was out of pecans. It came out a little denser than I expected, but it was very yummy. Thanks!
I didn't like this too much. I think the nutmeg taste overpowered the bread. I think I will stick to my Banana Nut bread.
Excellent! Moist and tasty. I was especially pleased that it used only one egg and 4 tbsp butter. I didn't use nuts. It took about 50 minutes to be done, and was fabulous while still warm. I look forward to making this again.
As I promised I have baked this wonderful bread. It is very easy to put together and is delicious.The only problem is, I can not it as much as I would like ( I am on a diet), but everyone else enjoyed it as well.
