I have just made this recipe for the second time. I didn't realize I had not reviewed it until I recommended it in a recipe request thread. This meatloaf comes out so moist, slightly sweet & delicious. My dh loves this meatloaf! The second time I made it, I used the filling ingredients as a topping instead of a filling. I removed the meatloaf from the oven after it had cooked about 40 minutes and drained off some grease. I spread the filling mixture over the top of the loaf and returned it to the oven for another 20 minutes. I baked this in my 8" cast iron skillet which gave it a nice brown bottom and made it easier to handle, pouring off the grease, as all meatloaves have. Great meatloaf, Judy! It's a keeper for us.

Awesome meatloaf!! I was never a fan of it before until now. The only thing I did differently was add a packet of dry onion soup mix. Very tasty! We will be eating this again and again!

This meatloaf is definately a change from the usual. It tasted ok but we found it to be very bland, A mouthfull of just the meatloaf part seemed to have very little flavour; a mouthfull of the meat part with the applesauce part was pleasant but not as flavourful as I thought it would be; I expected a lot more flavour from the dejong mustard, onion and pepper. I mashed the leftovers and added a lot more mustard, some dill pickle relish, a little salt and more pepper, it made a nice sandwich spread for lunch today.

A wonderful twist to one of my favorites dishes of all time! Don't be afraid of this recipe, although it is certainly something a little different it still tastes like a meatloaf, so if you are a meatloaf fan you will love it unless you don't like applesauce (actually, it was more like the filling of an apple pie, yes it is sweet). I made it along with mashed sweet potatoes (recipe 74982) and cornbread (recipe 87115), making all of the low fat substitutions I could (low fat butter, lean beef, etc) and it still came out great. Using 1.5lbs of meat instead of 1 didnt change the cooking time.

I made this today for my family and everyone enjoyed it, the sweetness from the applesauce was particularly liked by the kids, I will definitely make it again. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sorry but this was disliked by my family and I had to throw most of it away.

This was quite nice. The apple sauce went very well with the meatloaf. Next time I might use the apple sauce all over the top of the meatloaf as I preferred to eat the bit with the apple sauce on top!

This was tasty Judy! I used unsweetened applesauce and added 1/2 tsp. of salt to the meat mixture. I thought hubby might turn his nose up at it, as he is not much for sweet. So, I didn't come right out and tell him what kind of meatloaf it was... he took a bite and said... "You put applesauce on meatloaf!"... I said "Why, don't you like it??...and he said , "Yeah, it's alright!"... (and he ate every bit) so I guess it passed the test! LOL! My little ones (4 3/4, & almost 2!) didn't each much of this, but they are not much into meatloaf yet...but they do like applesauce, so hopefully this will be a good one for them once they "acquire" their tastes a little more! My daughter took a few bites, but once she discovered the onions in it that was it for her!(I was hoping she wouldn't notice them as she dips everything in ketchup!but she managed to find them!)They're still a little picky yet! I served with rosemary garlic mashed potatoes, green & yellow beans, and corn on the cob, and we had an enjoyable meal. Thankyou for a tasty (and different) meatloaf recipe!

We thought this was one of the best meatloaves we have ever eaten. Even my picky 4 year old enjoyed it! The balance of flavors with the applesauce and mustard is wonderful!

We enjoyed this very much. The children tried it, the applesauce made it sweeter for them - but not too sweet. Definitely will make it again. Thank you.

All of us liked this very much. Applesauce was a great addition. Will be making this again. It was so good I am going to buy a new meatloaf pan. Thanks Judy.

This was really, really good. I love to try unusual recipes and I loved the combination of the applesauce mixture with the meatloaf. It was very moist and had a great balance of sweet and savory. I'll defintely be making this again.
