This sounded like a more interesting applesauce than Mott's or the other store bought applesauce and so easy too. Recipe source: The Steamer Cookbook.
Ingredients:
4
apples
(2 Golden Delicious and 2 Macintosh or 4 of your favorite apples but the apple sauce is better if you)
1 tablespoon
lemon juice
1 ⁄3 ; cup
sugar
(depending on the sweetness of the apples and how sweet you want the apple sauce)
1 ¼ inches
piece
gingerroot
1 pinch
ground cloves
1 ⁄8 ; teaspoon
cinnamon
Directions:
1
Peel, core and cut apples into 16-20 pieces--the apple pieces should be about the same size.
2
In a heatproof bowl that will fit into steamer, combine apples with lemon juice and sugar.
3
Add ginger to bowl.
4
Place bowl on steamer rack.
5
Heat water in bottom of steamer.
6
When steamer water comes to a boil, place steamer rack with the bowl of apples, cover and steam for 15-20 minutes or until apples are tender.
7
Remove bowl from steamer and stir in cloves and cinnamon.
8
Cool, but remove ginger before serving.
Ratings & Reviews:
I loved this. However, my picky children informed me that they don't like applesauce chunky. Oh well, I have been enjoying it very much. Thanks for a very easy and yummy treat.

Absolutely easy to make, this chunky apple sauce recipe will be used a lot at my house from now on! I usually keep 4-5 jars of the store-bought kind on hand & eat it plain, use it as a topping for cottage cheese or waffles, add it to any number of cranberry recipes, or just use it as a simple side for chicken or pork. Now, I can enjoy making my own! Many thanks ~ it's great!
