this turned out quite delicious. i used a ninja cooker set on slow-cook high for nearly 3 hours after browning the sausages and onions first in the ninja on stovtop high setting for jsut a few minutes. i used a combination of apple jelly and beer with sliced apple wedges and rings of yellow onion with salt, pepper and a bit of rosemary the slow cooked sausage was tender and juicy with a beery apple flavor imparted into it. i scooped the sausages, broth apples and onions into a large serving bowl. placed the soft apples and onions on a plate and placed the sausages on top and drizzled with the beery apple broth.....oh yummmy! this was with a side dish of a potato-hash sauerkraut bake garnished with bacon bits and them some buttered bread and beers. reccomended.
We loved the flavor on these brats, though we didn't find the apples or onions appealing enough to eat. I used half beer and half apples juice. It was certainly an easy meal to come home to. Thanks.
This was a very simple recipe, and it smelled great walking in the door after work! Mine came out a lot browner and mushier than the picture, so perhaps I'll need to reduce the cooking time next time or add the apples a little later in the process. I also agree with the previous reviewer about maybe adding half apple juice for a little more apple flavor and a little sweetness. This is one I will definitely try again, so thank you for sharing it!
This was a great, quick recipe. I used 2 beers but I wish I had used half apple juice. I think it would have added a little more sweetness to the apples. I also used 1/2 bratwurst and 1/2 mild Italian sausage. Made for Photo Tag.
