  1. i had a bunch of apples i needed to use up so i made this recipe in an 8X8 pan, covered with foil and put it in the freezer for another day. popped it in the oven tonight and enjoyed every bite. thank you!

  2. Absolutely delicious! I will use this recipe from now on. For years, I had been trying to cut back on the butter - and it never "crisped up" to a delicious, crumbly topping. Well, this recipe did, and I will use it from now on. I added nuts to half of it in the pan, omitted the lemon (since I was using granny smith apples,) and didn't measure the apples - just be sure to use lots, because they cook WAY down. Can't wait to make more!

  3. A delicious and very easy dessert! I was lazy, so I threw the dry ingredients in my food processor to mix then blend in the butter. It makes the topping done in a matter of seconds without putting a cramp in my wrist (as a pianist, that's a good thing). I also mixed the apples, sugar, lemon juice, and additional cinnamon to coat evenly before placing in baking dish. It was a big hit with my husband and 2 boys! This recipe is a keeper!

  4. This was good but not great as I was hoping for. I followed the recipe exactly. I was hoping for a thicker, sweeter, buttery-tasting topping with cinnamony apples. THe topping was good, but the oats tasted odd. Maybe I should have used instant oats? I think next time I will add more butter, instant oats, yellow cake mix instead of flour, and add cinnamon and brown sugar instead of white sugar to the apples and use some apple pie spice in the topping mixture.

  5. This recipe was AMAZING! Sooooo good! This apple crisp will NOT last long in the fridge I'll tell you that! Nice and sweet, the apples were tender and the topping was fabulous - love the oats! Best apple crisp yet! Thank you!!! :)

Tweaks

  1. Terrific recipe, just what I was looking for! I did make a few changes though, I used peaches instead of apples and had enough to make a 9 x 13 inch pan full, so I doubled the topping recipe. I added some sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon and tapioca to the fruit (so it wouldn't be too juicy or runny - followed the directions on the tapioca box for how much to add for fruit pies). I also added some chopped nuts to the topping mixture and increased the spice a bit (used apple pie spice and cinnamon). This recipe is definitely a keeper!

  2. I threw the last bit of a bag of unsweetened shredded coconut and a handful of chopped pecans into the crumble part. And...melted the butter because cutting cold butter into the dry stuff would've driven me crazy. It all worked. I think any time that butter, sugar & flour meet apples, it's a good thing.

  3. just like my mum used to make it if not better. Topping was amazing and just used peaches instead of apples will definitely be keeping this one!!!
