  1. Syrup: Combine the first 4 ingredients and boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add butter.
  2. Dough:.
  3. Mix dry ingredients and cut in shortening. Gradually add milk,tossing to make a soft dough. Roll out on a floured board to form 12 x 18 inch rectangle.
  4. To prepare:.
  5. Spread the dough with the apples, cranberries and nuts. Roll up like a jelly roll and cut into 1 inch slices. Place in a 9 x 13 inch pan. Pour hot syrup over all and bake in a 425F oven for 40 minutes.
  6. Serve warm.
