Yum! I used wax paper instead of parchment which was a bit mistake. The apples stuck and I ended up eating alot of wax paper! But they were so good. I'll make them again using parchment paper. Thanks Pam! Made for PRMR.
We enjoyed these very much! My DH and I had tried making apple chips in our dehydrator only with disapointment! But I think this recipe will work in the dehydrator too and I plan on trying it for the drying part. I was able to get braeburn apples and I used my mandoline to slice the apples to a uniform size. We had company for dinner last night and decided to make these to top vanilla ice cream for something a little differant and still a "Fall" flavor. I used a red delicious apple (not supposed too - but that's all I could find over here) then used BOTH cinnamon and cloves - even a little heavy handed with it as we love it also did "core" the apples even though it said not to as I didn't like the idea of eating around it. Everyone enjoyed and I recieved 5 star compliments around the table. You are right though Pammy, they don't last long, and quickly turned soggy by the end of the evening - glad there weren't many left over.
We Loved these!! They were as crispy as a potato chip and sweet as candy. Could not get any braeburn apples so used one McIntosh (which was too big for my mandolin) and one Rome (which worked wonderfully) and skipped the cinnamon just because I forgot it. Any way these turned out tasting just like the bagged apple chips and for less than half the price of the bagged ones (yippy!!). I highly recommend you follow the directions and use a mandolin to get your apple thin enough and remember not to let them overlap. Thanks so very much for the fantastic recipe.
Unfortunately, we weren't crazy about these. They came out nice and crisp, but the taste was just. . .strange. They were very sweet, but very sour at the same time. They tasted much more tart than the original apples did. They also had a slightly bitter aftertaste. That might have been from the seasonings, which we really couldn't taste. I can see where some kids might like them, though. Thanks for posting!
