Another Bircher Muesli

"I found this recipe in the Australian Womens Weekly. I thought it sounded great as it contains ingredients I always have on hand. I even made this for my toddler DD (without the nuts) and she gobbled it up. It's really simple & tasty."

  1. I scaled this down to 2 servings because I'm the only oatmeal eater in my house. I used plain yogurt and some honey and used almonds instead of hazelnuts. I didn't like it raw so I cooked it in the microwave. It was good then, but maybe my oranges were too tart. Next time I might dilute the oj a little. Made for Bevy Tag, Oct '08.

  2. I wasn't very keen on the floury texture raw oats so I did as suggested below and cooked it for 5 minutes. It tasted really good then - the orange flavour definitely gives it an unusual tang!

  3. Very nice fruity muesli! I used peach soy yogurt and loved the addition of cinnamon. I'm not quite accustomed to such orangey muesli, but I certainly still enjoyed it! (For larger, muesli-devouring appetites such as my own, I would call this 4 servings.) Thanks for posting!

  4. I made this for a healthy breakfast this morning after prepping the night before, subbing in pecans for the hazelnuts. It was really good as written, but my husband asked if I could cook it, as he wasn't too crazy about the texture of the raw oats. So I cooked it on the stovetop for about 10 minutes, added a bit of skim milk to it and we both LOVED it! Thanks for a terrific breakfast Mandy. :)

Melbourne I live on a 5 acre property in the Dandenong Ranges Victoria, Australia, having moved from the burbs when I became pregnant with my now 15 year old daughter Alyssa. Once my daughter was born I became a stay at home mum as I couldn't bear the thought of putting her in daycare. She is the light of my life, I never imagined myself as a mum when younger but now wouldn't have it any other way. Alyssa was made a big sister on the 19th April 2010 when our cheeky little boy Blake was born. I love cooking and experimenting with new recipes so quickly become addicted to Zaar as it was previously known & still use it regularly. In addition to being my kids taxi  I also spend my time, reading, gardening and of course shopping. I'm lucky enough that we have the space & so love growing our own fruits, vegies & herbs, this also means we have plenty of room for animals & at the moment have 2 dogs, Max, a Jackshund who's 6, Fletcher, a Kelpie who's 4, 6 cats Snowpea, Fergus, Ginger, Tango, Annie & Cookie, 4 chooks & 2 Ducks. As well as our pets, we also have a lot of native animals around our area, we have kangaroos, wombats, echidna's, possums as well as rosella's, galah's & Cockatoo's hence the name of where I live..
