Anise & Honey Biscuits

"These delightful, sweet biscuits were heavenly hot from the oven, drizzled with honey, but they also kept well and were good the next morning for breakfast and at lunch with a little cheese. I used anise seed from www.Penzeys.com, and it had a terrific flavor. The seeds soften during the baking process, and it smells like Springerle cookies when the biscuits are baking (but these are much faster to make!)"

  1. Annacia, I loved these biscuits, they were tailor made for me. I really enjoyed the flavor and the texture of these biscuits. The anise is so subtle, its perfect. They rose well and are soft and tender on the inside and nice and crunchy on the outside. The honey is perfect as a sweetener in this treat. I made 1/3 of the recipe and ended up with 5 beautiful little biscuits. Made as exactly as written and wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for sharing.

  2. I have to admit I didn't know what to expect from these. The flavor is very subtle and good, and I enjoyed the texture created by using 1/2 ww flour. I agree that they are very good drizzled with honey straight from the oven, though DH liked his plain. I agree that about 1/2 c milk is all that is needed, though I used 1% and its wateriness might have caused that. I also used Smart Balance for the butter as it is all I had, and they turned out just fine. Thanks for posting this easy and interesting recipe! Made for Zaar Tag 2008.

  3. I love the flavor of these cookies--the honey and anise work very well together. I used 2/3 buckwheat honey, and 1/3 clover honey. I ended up having to add extra flour--I added the milk all at once, and I needed far less than the 3/4 cup the recipe called for. These are easy, and taste great, thanks for a great easy recipe!

  4. I'm giving this recipe 5 stars for the wonderful flavor. I did have trouble with trying to roll out the dough. I ended up patting out the dough in a cast iron skillet and baking it. I'm planning to make this again to see if I might have made a mistake in mixing up the ingredients. Made for ZWTIII

  5. The taste is beautiful, these are very good. I used 2 cups of whole wheat flour and used the full 3 teaspoons of anise seed and I love them, I also used a organic flower honey which compliments the taste of the anise wonderfully when drizzled on top. Thanks so much these will be made over and over.
