These were very, very tasty! A bit messy and sticky, though. I followed the other reviewer's advice and nuked the milk and that helped a lot, but wow...still very sticky and messy. I had to wash my fingers off after every other one just because so much coconut would build up on them-my fingers were ready for the oven! LOL! I also tried the last few strips with imitation honey instead of the milk, because I ran short. It shaved 30 calories per TBS and worked just fine! Taste was so similar...because the coconut flavor demands all of the attention. Next time I think I will use low cal bread and imitation honey all the way. They need to come up with sugar free coconut! (Oh, I guess they did! It's called unsweetened coconut!) :-) Thanks!

Delicious! I put the condensed a few seconds on microwave and was easier to dip the sticks on it! It's a keeper for sure! Thans a lot!

I'm not sure exactly what I did wrong, but these just didn't turn out the way I thought they would. I had trouble with the whole dipping and rolling procedure. After baking, all I could taste was the sweetened condensed milk. I was the only one in the family that would even try them. I'm sorry, but I won't be making these again.

These are perfect for me! I love sweets and I love coconut! I love these! I scaled the recipe down and made some with leftover french bread and some with regular white bread. I cannot tell you if one is better than the other and I have sampled too many times to keep trying to figure it out. It was a good excuse though. Thank you!!! I absolutely love love love them!!!

I had left over French bread, and a half can of sweetened condensed milk (from halving another recipe) and happened to see Gayla J's beautiful photo. So, what's a girl to do ..... just had to make a half batch of these little treats for myself. Wow, what an easy and tasty recipe. This is a keeper, for sure.

Not only were these delicious, you get extra points for ingenuity. :) I used French bread, which held up well to the dipping/rolling. My husband was surprised to learn these were made from bread, as when they are finished, they taste a lot like cake. I used your Sweetened Condensed Milk Substitute for Diabetics, and it worked out well. Thanks for sharing this tasty, simple, quick recipe!

I was pleasantly surprised with these simple sweets. They taste almost like a homemade coconut macaroon! I had week-old sourdough bread, the flavor of which only came through the tiniest bit. And the only coconut I had was this very small-flaked stuff that was organic and sugar-free, but it worked well. The sticks sort of melted together in the oven, so don't put them too close together on your pan. I lined a pan with parchment paper, and baked these for about 10 minutes. They are nice and chewy.
