I like that this recipe is different from all other mashed potato recipes. I did have a hard time finding potato flakes, and was pleasantly surprised at how good it turned out. I'm not sure about the saurkraut, though.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 (16 ounce) can sauerkraut
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 12 cup cream (you can add milk like i have to)
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups instant potato flakes


  1. saute onion in butter
  2. add sauerkraut you can drain it ,if thats what you do.
  3. saute until onion light gold
  4. add water.
  5. bring to a boil
  6. add potatoes.
  7. mix in cream to desired thickness.
